Thats what it comes down to doesn’t it? Determining would be a lot easier if we all had a range of prior experience with different pet insurance health care providers.
In our top suggested insurers page you will find a list on providers that in our experience and research are the most competive and best reviewed.
We have determined a few factors we think are most important to us and our pets when choosing a pet insurance provider.
1. Region: it’s a fairly new industry and like with auto insurance for many there is some comfort in knowing my insurer is close to home. Some of the larger companies are in Southern California and Washington.
2. Customer service: when you have questions about your pet insurance premiums or out of network veterinary visits do you want an email to contact or a live agent? Live agents are usually the way to go, you not only get live responses to your inquiries, often times you can even get an direct line to respond to for follow up questions about your pet insurance current needs.
3. Premiums, deductibles etc are all really important. But the real value and benefit of a health insurance plan is in the features your policy will have. By all means, read the fine print, make sure the list of features with a given basic or comprehensive plan are what your pet needs. Take the “tailored suit” approach to it. You want to make sure the plan is tailored to your pet, their previous illnesses and hereditary conditions and of course what you are able to fit into your budget.
