Last year VIP Pet Insurance released a list of the top ten drugs that cause pet illnesses. We did some research and found some information to supplement the list.
1. Raisins/Grapes - some of the immediate effects range from vomiting to digestive issues, to eventual anemia.
2. Mushrooms - this is mostly a reference to wild mushrooms.
3. Marijuana - usual symptoms associated with food poisoning.
4. Lily - these are highly toxic, specially for cats, and can be toxic as well.
5. Walnuts - can and have been known to cause seizures. If a dog licks walnut oil from your hands no real issues occur, but if consumed they can be very harmful.
6. Onion - the toxicity in onions invite digestive issues. Onion flavored food however should not be a problem.
7. Sago Palm - often used indoors, is very dangerous to cats and dogs. Signs of poisoning include vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, depression, seizures and liver failure.
8. Macadamia Nuts - effect occurring within 12 hours of consuming macadamia nuts, they cause depression, wobbly walking, elevated body temperature and heart rate as well.
9. Azalea - are toxic, but a dog or cat would have to consume about 2% its body weight of the plant. Symptons; Stomach irritation, abdominal pain. Can cause death.
10. Hydrangea - poisonois to househould pets. Common symptoms include swelling and inflammation of the digestive tract, bloody stool.
