Caffeine
So what’s the big deal about caffeine? In short, it contains methylxanthines, from which it derives
If your pet is to consume chocolate or some other product containing caffein, it will likely show symptoms of hyperactivity like panting and shaking, and even in some cases it can cause seizures.
Nuts and Grains
Though I have personally never experienced or heard a first hand account of a dog or cat falling ill from nuts and grains it is widely recommended that they be kept from such treats. In particular macadamia nuts which can cause vomiting and lethargic behavior.
Fruits
Grape and raisin toxicity is real. Though definitive reasons as to why aren’t really available, educated pet physicians will let you know about there experience with pets that have consumed these fruits. Common symptoms are diarrhea, vomiting, and in some cases the pet can find itself in acute renal failure.
Dairy
One of our favorite and most efficient way to get our dog to consume medications when i was a kid was to place the pills into small pieces of cheese mixed with with regular dog food or as treats for good behavior.
What pet health studies have brought to light is that lactase, the enzyme that breaks down protein, is something that isn’t significantly produced in dogs to break down protein very well. Which is why you will find that when your pet consumes milk or mischievously gets into someone’s ice cream bowl, they will also find themselves with some digestive issues.
Alcoholic Beverages
No Brainer.
Raw or Undercooked Food
In most ways, for the same reason we wouldn’t eat raw meat and eggs, our pets are also susceptible to E. Coli and Salmonella poisoning. On a small scale, your pet will definitely have digestive problems if these are to be consumed. It might be a smart idea to look into pet insurance regulations in a pets diet, or simply ask when researching which insurance is best for you.
And on the question of raw bones. Dogs will choke on them, or hurt their digestive tract trying to get them through. It’s bound to happen.
Some Vegetables
There are some vegetables that can also cause discomfort to your pets digestive system. In particular; garlic, onions and other veggies with a higher level of sulfoxides and disulfides cause gastrointestinal pain.
That we know its mostly in a raw state that these vegetables can cause issues in your dogs diet. Flavoring with garlic salt or onion powder apparently shouldn’t be a concern.
