Like with normal health insurance there are waiting periods for pets. The period of time can vary from days to several weeks after enrollment due to a few factors like recent accidents or illnesses.
We want to point out a few things to remember about waiting periods after enrolling your pet in an insurance plan.
1. Every insurance company has waiting periods. So don’t completely dismiss a health plan for your pet just because you may have to wait a few weeks. Unless of course its urgent the pet receive medical attention, in which case, show your pet some love.
2. Opting Out: Sometimes a waiting period can be a useful tool to continue to shop around. Clear it up first, we suggest you ask if there is an opt out option during the waiting period for which ever insurance company you choose to enroll with.
3. Often times if pet health conditions occur during the waiting period those illnesses can be excluded from your plan.
To summarize, you will encounter waiting periods, shop around, and take into account your pets current health. Also, something you may want to consider is travel pet insurance; since a waiting period and your planned travel arrangements may no coincide very well.
